South West Winter League

Hello Southwest Division Bowlers,

Our last Winter League was the 2019 – 2020 Winter League. After 3 years, we’re going to give SWD Winter League another try. Every team will be playing 6 matches on Saturdays during December, January, and hopefully ending at the end of January 2023. There will again be a Gold League for the more experienced bowlers and a Silver League for those not as confident or are just starting out in tournament play. How the schedule sets up depends on who signs up. We will endeavor to keep the number of miles driven to other clubs the same for each club. There will of course be exceptions, but the effort will be made.

Currently, the match weeks are as follows: Dec 3, Dec 10, Dec 17, Dec 24, Jan 7, Jan 14, and Jan 21. There will be a one-day, playoff on Jan 28 (weather allowing) at a club and with a format to be determined later.

In a nutshell, a club can enter as many teams as they like in either league. The larger clubs will likely have multiple teams, but we hope to encourage the smaller clubs to enter a team as well. Each team should be composed of at least 6 people (any less and you run into trouble during the Holidays fielding a team) and must be from the same club (it doesn’t matter if the club is their primary or secondary club). There is no limit to the number of people who can be on a team, but we would hope that if a team has 12 or so people willing to play that they would be broken up into 2 teams. A person CANNOT be on two teams. Each club should form pool of bowlers that can substitute for any club team should it be needed. However, these substitutes CANNOT play singles or skip. Gold League subs CANNOT play on Silver League teams, but Silver League subs CAN play on Gold League teams. Bowlers who have finished in the top 3 in a SW points event in the last five years CANNOT play in a Silver League game, with one exception: Novices are always eligible for Silver team play. The Linked Winter League Conditions of Play go into more detail and have some other interesting rules that should make things run smoothly, so please read them.
